Gregory Phil Grothues
March 16, 1968 — January 22, 2026

Greg was born on March 16, 1968, to Phil Grothues and Marlene Leibold Grothues. In 1991, Greg married Gina Hoelscher of Uvalde, Tx. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service. They raised their two children, Kristen and Cole, on the Leibold-Grothues ranch, where the family worked side by side caring for the land, raising cattle, and continuing a legacy rooted in tradition and community.
He and his dad Phil Grothues, Jr. developed Lake Medina RV Resort in 2000 on the same land, and it continues to be a warm meeting place for family and friends continuing a history of hospitality which started as Leibold’s Fishing Camp in the 1920s.

Greg is survived by his wife, Gina; his children, Kristen Grothues Gally, husband Justin, and Cole Grothues, his siblings, Debbie Grothues, Laura Stewart, husband Ed; Carol Wilden, husband Robert; and Brian Grothues, husband, Margarito.
Greg proudly served his community for 20 years as Assistant Fire Chief/EMT with the Medina Lake Volunteer Fire Department, and as Bandera County Commissioner for Precinct 2.
A man of deep integrity and selfless service, Greg devoted his life to helping others and always answered the call when his community was in need. A loving Husband, Father, Cowboy, Firefighter, EMT, County Commissioner, Coach for countless youth teams, Jack of All Trades, Friend to All, Greg did it all with a welcoming smile and an open heart.
