Burn Ban is OFF......
Apparatus
The heart of a fire department is it's people. Secondary to that is it's equipment. MLVFD takes great pride in it's equipment. Our different apparatus allow us to help the public in different situations.
Engine 1
Engine 1 is our primary engine. It has a pump and carries 1800 gallons of water, hose, ladders, SCBA air packs and firefighting tools.
Engine 2
Engine 2 is our fast attack engine. It's small size allows us to get to harder reach areas quickly. It has a pump and carries 300 gallons of water, hose, ladders, SCBA air packs, extrication tools (Jaws of Life) and firefighting tools.
Quint 1
A quint also known as a quintuple combination pumper, combines the functions of a pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial device and ground ladder into one apparatus. MLVFD has the only aerial apparatus Bandera County.
Tankers 1 & 2
Tankers 1 & 2 carry 2,000 gallons of water and a drop tank each. Becauses we are in a rural area mostly without hydrants we have to bring our own water to the fires.
Brush Trucks 1 & 2
Brush trucks 1 & 2 are our small brush trucks. Their small size allows them to get into small wooded areas to put out wildland fires. They each carry 300 gallons of water.
Brush 2 also functions as a rescue truck with extrication and medical gear.
Brush truck 3
Brush 3 is our heavy brush truck. It carries 300 gallons of water. As a 5 ton truck it can be used in some water rescues.
Brush truck 4
Brush truck 4 is our workhorse. It can carry 800 gallons of water and stay our fighting brush fires over twice the time of our smaller brush trucks.
UTV 1
UTV 1 allows us quickly into tighter areas than our brush trucks. It carries a small amount of water, but it can reach out further with the extra forestry hose it carries.
Marine 1
Marine 1 is a 25' Guardian and former Coast Guard boat. It has plenty of power with dual engines. It is our primary water rescue boat.
Marine 2
Marine 2 is a 15' RHIB used for water rescues and rescues in water too shallow for Marine 1.
